In keeping with our commitment to the health and wellness of children and their families in our Ulster County community, the Junior League of Kingston has presented Kids Run Wild annually at the Forsyth Nature Center since 2009. The free event provides a full day of fun, fitness and education for children of all ages and their families.
Kids Run Wild has grown to become a notable community event that many look forward to and want to be a part of. The League kicks off the event in the morning with a ½ mile Fun Run where all who participate receive an award. After the run kids have plenty to do throughout the day, including various crafts, physical fitness instruction and educational resources that focus on health and nutrition.
The League’s own Kids in The Kitchen program helps children assemble and decorate their own cookbook filled with delicious healthy snacks they can make themselves with little or no assistance from an adult. Members also present a Nutrition Olympics that kids of all ages can participate in. The League welcomes many local sports and fitness groups to the event to give kids tips and instruction on how to stay active everyday while having fun.
Hosted at the Forsyth Park and Nature Center, the League includes presentations about indigenous animals and plants. By planting their own seeds and seedlings, with help from League members, children learn where their food comes from and how to nurture and help a plant grow.
Over 500 children and their families have enjoyed Kids Run Wild in the past and the League looks forward to continuing to present this important community event.
